In the nearly 2 years we have been in Beijing, the smog situation has changed for the better quite dramatically. In fact with the bricking of Beijing which involves the removal of illegal shops, the look and feel is changing on many levels. President Xi has led the charge in shutting down pollution spewing factories and the move to natural gas rather than coal fired heating has also been a winner in the smog stakes.
This picture is from late 2016 and during one of the many many clear days in the Jing, I snapped this capture of a small section of the ring of hills that surround Beijing. It is the hills that trap the smog. A northerly wind of kmh or more does mean clear skies.
