Massive projectors in play to throw the images across the Yarra and onto the trees on the riverbank. I wonder about the creative process and how the decisions were made regarding the face, movement and colour pallet. Chanelling the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, the last lamppost lies between these giants. I thought White Night 2014 had some beaut moments. In what I have dubbed the Karen Carpenter Lights ("Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft.") the crepuscular lights installation became better as the night wore on... With free spooky soundscape, all those who were indulging in some kind of chemical boost were no doubt enjoying the vibe.

High on the hill above Mansfield lies the small town of Tolmie ~ a quiet hamlet on almost any day other than the annual Tolmie Sports Day. The 124th running of which has just been held. A classic combo of premier events pepper the day commencing with an event that proved to be hugely popular with people of all ages... the egg throwing competition. nothing says i love you more than a egg exploding in your hand which is in front of your face. Several father-daughter and bf-bf combinations seems to prove this to be so as the last to "catch" ran at their partner intent on sharing the egginess that was streaming from their hand. Of course series events such as the woodchopping events proved enormously popular with axe men (and one woman) travelled from near and far to send the chips flying in the pursuit of glory and some semi-serious prize money. Woodchop is best left as a competition between humans as given half a chance, someone is going to come up with crazy concept and actually build it... like a V8 engine attached to a large chainsaw blade. I know, its ridiculous, none would do that... oh... Yep, it a Commodore V8 engine powered chainsaw that cut through the log in approx 2 seconds. However, for my money, as impressive as the "super axe" might be, the biggest cheers came from the large crowd at the hotly contested dog jump competition. This year finally saw a changing of the guard. Whitey has handed his crown of many years standing to new kid on the block, Buddy. Whitey is captured in action in the pic below jumping a height of 2.13m. At these dizzy heights, at least one handler needs to be ready to catch the dog when gravity wins the battle. Buddy earned his right to wear the crown of the reigning champion after besting Whitey at two boards above this height. There is no doubt that the working dog category was a crowd pleaser, but no less important, in the eyes of some, was the small breed dog jumping competition. After several rounds of hot competition fighting it out with Dora and Elsie, Rrrex the wonder dog won out with a leap well under his previous best but nonetheless... he also wears the reigning dog jumping champion (small breed) crown for the next 364 days.
