Before we pack it all in and leave Munich for London once more, the nod must be given to the superb and numerous parks that abound around the city centre.

First King od Bavaria is depicted in this oh so modern statue. Naturally there are many other statues around the city, but these ones took my fancy, and then just a few metres further down was this,..Apparently this homage to a man. of questionable behaviour keeps on re- appearing soon after. it is removed.
There is much to see in the centre of Munich. Today it was a royal wedding complete with Oompa Band. Poppy the Dachshund is a star attraction wherever we go. The Oompa Lumpa Band members went nuts over her... well, the male members of the band, the gals... less interested..
ITs all about time periods here at Glenleiten, Set on 60 hectares there are 40+ houses from various time periods that share with visitors the different lifestyles through the ages. From milling and other water powered pursuits to barns and homes where families shared digs with the pigs and cattle, this is an interesting place to time travel.
Nestled in the hills in Murnau the Münter Haus (formerly the Kandinsky Haus) is a little gem. Gabrielle Munter and Kandinsky set up the house and gardens from 1909 until 1914 when WWI separated them. Münter was in Kandinsky's shadow for a long time before her talent was truly recognised. To her haus I have been and she is not a has been,
It's a lake where people flock to enjoy the water, the bike trails, the walking tracks, the mountains and the ambience. But the local authorities, aka the Fun Police, know how to be killjoys. Faceless evil I say.
Oberammergau is a cute little town in the alps of Bavaria, famous for its painted houses... and wooden carving.
It stands in stark contrast to the pork knuckle served up in Hahndorf SA. This was huge AND tasty. Had to try it sometime whilst in Bavaria. After eating this, one was "bao le" or "full up to the head" as the Chinese say. So I was knuckle-headed.
When the tide of popular opinion runs against one, then a drowning or two is inevitable. Mad King Ludwig discovered this and that any survival stroke was not enough. He built many palaces (yes, THAT palace in Bavaria Disneyland is based on) and spent his fortune and then some. Claiming to be chosen King by God only gets one so far it seems. So when the good burghers rise up and drown their King of questionable. sanity, the rest is history. From Wikipedia Ludwig II (Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm; 25 August 1845 – 13 June 1886)[1] was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death in 1886. He is sometimes called the Swan King or der Märchenkönig ("the Fairy Tale King"); outside Germany, however, he is more commonly called "the Mad King" or "Mad King Ludwig".[2] He also held the titles of Count Palatine of the Rhine, Duke of Bavaria, Duke of Franconia, and Duke in Swabia.[3]... Ludwig was taken into custody and effectively deposed on 12 June 1886, and he and his doctor were found dead on the following day. His death was ruled to be a suicide, but this too has been disputed.[4] Today, his architectural and artistic legacy includes many of Bavaria's most important tourist attractions. The locations for his palaces are all rather nice. Set in woodlands, the palace which is a homage to one of his idols, the Sun King (Louis XIV is no exception. The opulence inside the palace was stunning. Sadly photos not permitted. Take the gold statue of Venus in the fountain as an indicative of the interior.
Lothar Günter Buchwald had a touch of MKL in him (Mad King Ludwig) . He was prepared to spend his amassed fortune on art and place his own works along side that of the masters of the impressionist period. An enormous sense of self happening there... so much so methinks he is a self declared GOAT. . His fortune came, in part, from the extraordinary success of his novel 'Das Boat'. The lake-side architect designed building is lovely and the amassed collection of impressionist art is impressive.
